A lot has happened and there are a few memories I also want to record. Let's see what gets done.
In February, a friend posted about a job at Mills in their housing department. As Jason has housing experience, he applied. For weeks, we heard nothing and then they asked for an interview! After the interview, we heard nothing for a week and then he was asked for another interview. At last he was told he was their top choice and soon after was made a formal offer. This was back in early March, with plans for him to start the first week of April. It is a full time job with BENEFITS starting in May. Unfortunately, he still has to pay out of his pay check to cover himself and Cordelia, so instead of coming out of mine it will come out of his, but ultimately it will be a better plan. And he will also have dental and vision and life insurance and all those things. This is all great news for the security, stability, as well as being a huge financial relief to us. He does have a pretty long commute… good thing he insisted on getting a hybrid car.
The downside is that Jason has had to give up his stay at home Dad days, which all three of us love so much. He is really missing it. I said, now you know how I felt about going back to work! But he countered, it's worse for me because I had so much longer to get used to being with her! It was such a blessing for him to have that time for her, and we weren't really prepared for it to end. It is painful being away from her!
We were very lucky that he started his job on the day that my Spring Break began, so we could get used to his new schedule. We are now into our second week of Cordelia staying at Meme's house 5 full days and she is transitioning really smoothly. Waking her up is a little bit tough because she is always so groggy when she wakes and very clingy. I used to hold her and eat breakfast on my lap as part of our routine once she had dropped her morning nursing. It was so we still felt close and had some time together. Now we just load her up in the car! Jason is dropping her off, so he can at least see his mom briefly and get a little time with Cordelia too. We are rushing around quite a bit, of course. But the best thing is how much Cordelia loves her Meme. She likes playing with homes and dolls especially right now. I am picking her up, either after 5 or 5:30, depending on my schedule. It is a very long day for her, but she is excited when she gets home and wants to play. The dinner, bath, bed routine is taking longer as we all want time together, but a Mama friend remarked that letting go of the schedule may be more worthwhile to keep everyone happy. Not that we had the tightest schedule lined up, either….
A few stories.
One day at the playground, we saw a grasshopper sitting on the cement. It was quite still, so I got a stick to point it out and give it a gentle nudge to see if it would move around. It didn't go far. Cordelia enjoyed looking at it and saying, "Hi Grasshopper." It made quite an impression. The next day when we went back, Cordelia started saying, "Hi Grasshopper. Come see you!" She wanted to find it again so badly When I told her it went bye bye she began to look for a stick to bring the grasshopper, so that it could eat it. A logical theory as to why I had brought the stick over. For days, she has been leaving a stick for the grasshopper to come back. It is just about the cutest thing. She also enjoys finding ladybugs and has held one a few times.
She asked to cuddle on Dada's lap last night. It was very sweet.
She has a really runny nose. Hope she gets better soon.
